A Lifetime Before

A lifetime away, yet not far at all;
It brings back the memories of that last fall.
A house now empty, family torn apart,
Some things will never heal in a broken heart.

You earned my trust, then you took it away.
“You are stupid!” Is what I wanted to say.
I remember when we laughed and when we cried,
No matter what, you were by my side.

I never had to tell you that I was sad,
You brought me a boy that could make me glad.
You held me together when times were rough,
I remember times I walked out with a huff.

I congratulate you for making me, me,
A part of my story, you will always be.
Always beautiful, even when filled with strife,
You, from not so long ago, are my life.
